Middle School Mathematics Teacher

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Middle School Math  teacher is a dedicated and experienced teacher who is passionate about teaching math responsible for delivering high-quality math instruction aligned with the Common Core State Standards, fostering a positive learning environment, and supporting the academic growth and development of middle school students.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Curriculum Development

●       Develop and implement math curricula aligned with Common Core State Standards and school-wide learning goals.

●       Collaborate with grade-level teams to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of math instruction.

●       Design lesson plans that integrate technology, hands-on activities, and real-world applications to enhance student understanding.

Instruction

●       Deliver engaging, standards-based math instruction that fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration.

●       Incorporate a variety of teaching methods, including project-based learning, direct instruction, and cooperative learning strategies.

●       Utilize educational tools, math software, and learning management systems to enhance instruction.

Assessment

●       Create and administer formative and summative assessments to evaluate student mastery of math concepts.

●       Use assessment data to monitor progress, identify learning gaps, and adjust instructional strategies.

●       Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on their performance.

Classroom Management

●       Establish and maintain a structured, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment based in the principles of Positive Discipline.

●       Develop and enforce clear classroom routines and behavior expectations to ensure a productive learning atmosphere.

●       Use positive reinforcement and restorative practices to address student behavior.

 

Student Engagement and Differentiation

●       Foster a growth mindset by encouraging curiosity, perseverance, and resilience in math learning.

●       Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with learning differences and advanced learners.

●       Provide additional academic support through small group instruction or one-on-one tutoring.

Collaboration and Professional Development

●       Participate actively in professional learning communities (PLCs) to develop, refine, and align instructional practices.

●       Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in math instruction and pedagogy.

●       Collaborate with colleagues to plan interdisciplinary projects and school-wide initiatives.

Family Engagement

●       Maintain open and proactive communication with families about student progress, classroom activities, and academic expectations.

●       Respond promptly and professionally to parent inquiries and concerns.

●       Partner with families to support students’ academic and personal growth.

Collaboration & Communication

●       Communicate with parents and guardians about student progress and ways to support science learning at home.

●       Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress, curriculum updates, and any issues that may arise.

Cultural Education

●       Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom by incorporating culturally responsive teaching practices.

●       Integrate multicultural perspectives into math instruction to make learning more relevant and meaningful.

●       Foster an inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and respected.

Other Duties

●       Support school events, field trips, and extracurricular activities as needed.

●       Assist with duties such as supervising students during lunch, recess, or transitions.

●       Fulfill other responsibilities assigned by the school leadership to contribute to the overall success of the school.

QUALIFICATIONS

 Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in science or science education. Masters preferred. Valid U.S. teaching certification or license in the relevant field is required.

 Experience: In-depth knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and how to integrate SEPs, DCIs, and CCCs into classroom practice. Experience with hands-on, inquiry-based learning, and the ability to foster a collaborative learning environment. Proficiency in the use of educational technology, science lab equipment, and software tools to enhance student learning.

 Skills:

●       Fluent in English (primary language of instruction at our school).

●       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.

●       Understanding of language acquisition theories and teaching methodologies.

●       Cultural sensitivity and the ability to integrate cultural aspects into lessons.

●       Strong ability to engage students in phenomena-based learning and guide them through the scientific method.

●       Classroom management skills that promote a safe, respectful, and focused learning environment.

●       Adaptability to differentiate instruction and assess students on multiple dimensions of NGSS-aligned learning.
